Managers are the hinge of any AI transition. They're the ones who translate board-level strategy into Tuesday-morning reality — and they're the ones most afraid of looking foolish.
Name the fear first
Before any tool training, give managers space to say the quiet part out loud: 'Will this make me redundant?' Coaching starts by honoring that fear, then reframing it. AI doesn't replace judgment. It surfaces more decisions for judgment to act on.
“A manager who can frame a good question will always out-earn a manager who can only execute a given answer.”

From gatekeeper to coach
The manager's role shifts from approving work to coaching better questions. When a team member brings a draft, the manager's job is to ask, 'What prompt produced this, and how could it be sharper?' That single question, repeated weekly, builds an augmented team.
Manager ritual
End every 1:1 with one AI experiment the report will try before next week. Small, specific, shared.
Coach managers well and the whole org follows. Coach them poorly and no amount of tooling will save you.
